This book came recommended by many. So of course I avoided it for a long time. I am turned off by hype. But continuing my quest to read #newtome authors, I decided to read it.
Was the hype justified? There is no clear answer to that I think. It's definitely not a book for everyone. I did not enjoy the story butbi read the book in 1 day. In almost 1 sitting.
As it happens, I never quite got to like the protagonist - Eleanor Oliphant. The book is entirely about her.
But it is a very well written book. And the author had a very clear picture of who the character was and her how she wanted the book to flow. It was a very well laid out and thoughtful book and it showed. I finished the book in a day.
The book tells the story in present tense and deals with Eleanor healing, but the narrative style and story points are placed in a way to explain how Eleanor became who she was. It hought that was actually very intelligently done . It never got boring and I got pretty invested in it despite not really liking the character. Along the same lines, the subject of the book is very heavy (see thr TW) but Elanor had a very direct and dry humor that she wasn't aware of. So it added a bit of levity to the prose and I found myself laughing in quite a few places. Her opinion of death metal music for one :)

All in all, this was a good book. If deep topics are your thong and if you like Eleanor more than I did, it might be a great book for you.
