Homage to my Bonus Mother

Happy #Navaratri / #VijayaDashami/#Dasshera to all of you from Amma and me

May this day mark the beginning of learning, living and good tidings for all

My amma is in a Purple saree. Turns out she does have a purple saree. Doesn’t this color look amazing on her?

Before I start my final post for this Navratri, Please heed the TW below.

TW: Widows/Widowhood.

The nice thing about today is there is no color code to follow So I wore my all time fave saree, (I talked about it in day 2 post) bought with my wedding sarees, 28 years ago.

Everytime I see a beige based saree, I think of Kamala Mami (K mami). My mothers BFF for the last 55 years, our neighbor in Bombay, My bonus mother/parent, and the best model ever for beige cotton sarees. Her look always was a crisp cotton saree, in some shade of beige or pastel color with a contrasting border with a blouse that matched the body of the saree. As I write this, I see her in my minds eye, as she was in the 1980’s — A big Pottu, her regular diamond earrings, her mangalsutra, 2 bangles and no other jewelry. Not a hair out of place, compact, regal and dignity personified. She would love this saree, though I am not sure if its woven grand pallu would appeal.
