I am told it’s purple day. Amma calls all colors north of pink as purple. But she met everyone yesterday and realized what purple actually was. Then told me she doesn’t have a single purple saree. All right . Noted. You will have a purple saree soon!
My story today was going to be about Dhwani’s purple saree. Brief story. She told us what color she wanted. My cousin in India sent her options. Dhwani chose from them. A Kanchi soft silk, perfect for early saree wearers. You can see Dhwani in the old pic wearing her purple saree.

Here is the thing. Once you start looking for stories, the stories find you I think.
I don’t have a purple saree to pass to my kids. I wore this purple Bangalore silk which was a gift from my mothers aunt, someone who adored my mother. Amma has not worn printed sarees in over 50 years, so this came to me brand new. I think we have to draw a line somewhere on what we want to keep, pass on, rehome etx. This was a rehome for me.
While draping this today I was thinking, I should call that aunts kids or grandkids and ask them if they wanted this saree. But that aunt had literally thousands of sarees. All top notch quality too and I am pretty sure the kids, grand kids and great…
