If Sarees Could Talk — Navaratri2023 — Day 9 — Navami — Bandini print sarees from Gujarat

Hope everyone had a peaceful Saraswathi Pooja.

Today’s color was peacock blue.

Today was a Que Sera Sera kinda day. I bought a new saree. A much longed for Bandini saree from Gujarat. I was so excited when it arrived on time. I knew as soon as I looked at it though that there was a good chance this wouldn’t work out. And what do you know, it didn’t. The best laid plans and all that…..

This is my second round of Bandini purchase that didn’t work out. Maybe third time will be the charm.

When I decided to collect sarees from different states, I did not anticipate that getting a Bandini that I like would be so hard.

I got one a few years back . Satin with Gota Patti border. The satin made me uncomfortable, the blouse that came with it had some lace that I was allergic too, very hard to drape. I gave it away. This time I wanted a handloom bandini . I don’t have any bother handlooms and was excited to get this. But it looked terrible on me. I didn’t like the drape at all…

I am disappointed. But I did wear one of my mother’s oldest sarees. Got a surprising number of compliments too. Guess it was it’s day.

But I am sad about the Bandini.
