Movie Name: Sam Bahadur

Language: Hindi with English subtitles

Channel: Movie Theater.

Sam Bahadur is the Story of Sam Manekshaw, India’s most decorated Army officer, a man with great charisma who was known as much for his Strategic thinking as for his leadership and convictions. I have known about him, his stories and have also heard him talk.

I have a lot to say (but of course) on this movie. Before I go into specifics, I should commend Meghna Gulzar on her outstanding work with research, story writing, direction and production. I love that she is getting into this genre of 20th century Indian history and finding these amazing human stories to tell (Raazi was also her work). Her narration is well researched, truthful and gives you a heartwarming cinema.

For people who are unfamiliar with Sam M, this is a perfect introductory film. It travels through his meteoric rise through the army ranks, and through him tells the story of India’s military from Pre Independence through the wars with China and Pakistan. It ends with the Independence of Bangladesh. It also gives a glimpse into the man, his character, personal life, his style. The perfect biopic for those unfamiliar with him and a must see for anyone with any interest in India. I would recommend getting familiar with the subcontinent geography. A simple look through wiki would also be sufficient.
