Netflix knows me better than I know myself :)
As freaky as that statement sounds, for once I am glad.
Netflix has been recommending this show to me forever, but somehow I did not take to it. I think I even started watching it once but stopped midway through the first episode. I think for TV shows, just like for books, you have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy. This one, you definitely need to be in an ‘India in the early 20th century’ frame of mind.
I have a fascination with all things West Bengal. I don’t completely understand it as I have never been there. I know some Bengalis, some are even friends with me on FB, but I don’t ever remember discussing WB and its culture with them. But I love their language, their weaves in sarees, love Tagore’s writing and can listen to Bengali music all day.
And now, I can add TV shows based on WB to the list!
This is a series of short stories as the title says.
A collection of about 20 stories, set across 26 episodes. Anurag Basu has done an absolutely stellar job of setting the timeline of these stories, find threads to connect these stories and yet managing to keep them distinct. So you could actually pick and choose what stories to watch, drop ones that you may not be in the mindset for and keep the flow.
